A little added detail and recognition

Dec 11, 2012,03:29 AM

The dial, although simple at first sight was complex to make and the company concerned 'Bilight' in Geneva developed the process in making this dial as well as the new Spirit dial. Each dial has its own mould which is filled in by hand in their workshop and can only be used once, this is how the 3d effect is produced. Afterwhich the black resin is filled in between the numbers and on top of the tram lines. This is simplifying the process which remains far more complex and confidential, but does explain a little of the complex nature of the production. In addition to associate the 2 oclock with the other diagonal hours they were sunk into the dial and the Super LumiNova (sln) was level with the surface of the dial instead of simply being added to the surface. In addition the very fine detail (tramlines) is below the black resin surface, the Romans and minute markers are 0.3mm high. Finally to allow for the additional thickness of the calendar with its sln backing the underside of the dial had to be machined to assure sufficient clearance. All in all for a simple dial a large ammount of time, care and developement was envolved for which I appreciate Bilights patience and expertise.  (images to follow)

And finally, just a few photographs of this beauty for your enjoyment. Please notice this incredible dial, and the little blocks of luminova stuck on it that form the indices. And of course, the 3-D effect of the whole dial itself. I hope some of the phot...

it has something, I don't know what which makes it ...well...appealing. Now what is that little round opening with a "3" at 2 o'clock? Is it the number of days left on the power reserve? If so, then this is taste and subtlelty, subliminously refined elega...

Also notice the roman numeral II as the day 2 on the date wheel...

Thank you gentlemen for having entrusted the second Cronotempus watch to Speake-Marin, following on from Chopard is quite an honour.

Thanks for your nice words. I guess the club is open to new admissions, although with like any other "posh" club it is the current members who ultimately accept new members. I can introduce you to the incumbent people if you (or any other PuristS member) ...

Interesting project and lucky owners!

 By: sidneyc : December 11th, 2012-17:36
Congrats to Sanro and all club members! Can't do much better than a commission piece from Peter! Your next Chronotempvs will have very very big shoes to fill! Enjoy the lovely watch!

I like this watch tremendously. the date at 2 is fantastic--such an easy detail to 'ruin' a watch but it works beautifully! My favorite PSM ever.

Everybody's smiling.
